FEATURED POEM
HISTORIC JAZZ COVER ART
(A Miltonian Sonnet)
Horace preserved his father with the shot
With Bermuda hat and eager cigar
Marking the way for a blazoning spark
To woodshed with cats who fostered his spot
Drifting in twilight with changes proffered
As he slid into a dream of bluesy grooves
With West Coast lightning of hard bop crapshoots
Comping the head of Song of My Father
With the humorous swing of a flip phrase
Forever signaling his due acclaim
Shining from his nonconforming sharp eyes
Improvising for nature’s silent stage
Francis Wolff pictured a lakeside refrain
A noted shot for the BlueNote archives
